'The wheels on the bus go round and round...round and round...the wipe on the bus go swish and swish...swish and swish...' This is Daniel's favourite nursery song at the moment.
Daniel enjoys a nursery songs DVD so much that each time when I sit him up in front of the telly he would be excited with lots of anticipation written on his face, if the screen turned into his nursery song track, he would be shouting with joy; and if it was just news or something else he his head would turn towards his toys. Terry bought this DVD for Daniel since he was 6 months old . Every morning I let Daniel watched it for 20 minutes when he's up while I am making his breakfast in the kitchen. He's been watched this DVD for so long and the interest is still strong, which is good, i think, as all these nursery songs contain a lot of repetition will help him learn about the important sounds patterns and rhythms that make up the language. Sometimes I sing along with the DVD, which will make Daniel laugh.... I play another nursery CD upstairs in the bedroom for Daniel before he goes for his naps. My house is running like a nursery to some extent with nursery rhythms echoing everywhere...
The library playgroup I take Daniel to every fortnight has a singing-along session, which was organised by librarians. Every baby in the group get a chance to draw an animal toy from a bag passing around and the librarian would start to sing a nursery song related to that animal and everyone just sing along. We've been singing 'Ency weency Spider'; 'Bear over the Mountain'; 'diddle diddle..' etc. I think it is a very good playgroup compare to the other one we used to go. More toys and more babes and the singing...

I'm so hopeless when it comes to the nursery rhythms. As a mother of two little kids, I can't even sing any of them properly! I know bits and pieces of some of the nursery rhythms, but only a few words or a bit of the tunes. I'm so embarrassed every time at the playgroup watching other mothers sing. I'm just not interested to learn, I think. It's a shame, I know. Hope my kids will know better and more, and then they can teach me.
Music is very good for babies. I try to put on music more often, but Isabel keeps destroying it by turning the volumn to maximum! She just loves that knob.
Daniel hasn't worked out where the button is for the DVD player, otherwise he would be the same like Isabel, hehe...
I learned all these nursery rythms unconsciously as I play the same CD and DVD everyday. Also learned a bit with Terry when he sings to Daniel. These songs are just on tip of their tongues as they've all grwon up to these songs like we all grew up to Chinese ones like '小燕子','我们坐在高高的谷堆旁边...' You must know some of chinese one though. When we were in Kunming, my sister made Daniel sleep by singing '我们坐在高高的谷堆旁边...'to him, which just felt so natural to her though she herself hasn't got any kids. I bought a chinese nursry songs CD for Daniel on our trip back to China and i plays it to Daniel sometimes in the hope to help him to learn Chinese in the years to come... Actually i can recognise that lots of modern chinese nursery rythms are originated from the English one anyway...
Never too late to learn, i think, it's fun...The first time when I took Daniel to the singing-along session, i was amazed that as an Easterner I can sing most of the songs they sang, which motivated me to go there more often...
