Sex and City - the Movie

Like many other women I was a Sex and the City fan on TV series. I didn't miss any single episode when it on TV 5 years ago. I went to see the film on Monday evening with a girl friend, who is on the verge of breaking-up with her fiancee. To cheer her up i suggested to see this film with her. Terry agreed to have a boys' night-in with Daniel with Winnie-the Pooh and fish finger dinner.

A great see! a film about relationship and friendship! I like the way it portrait the mordern relationship, the way it deals with real emotional issues that people identify with, but does so with a hearty dose of glamour and sex. It's about addressing the insecurity of modern love and life and moving forward regardless of all these insecurities and risks... the film is also a big metaphor about friendship and loyalty and honesty despite one's limitations and neurosis. But somehow i have a bit dout about this, how true this can be? Miranda dropped the ball of sex in her juggling act of work, kid and husband and home but she has the time to go on an exotic holiday to cheer up her bed-bound friend Carrie while her own relationship with Steve is in breakdown. How can she leave her son behind?

I loved that movie! My mom bought the DVD in China (as well as Kongfu Panda) and they are on the way here, hehe.

Actually I don't mind getting away from my family for a few days on a nice holiday IF I had some girlfriends to go with and the money to pay for it!

Yeah, i don't mind that either on ad hoc basis if I happen to have such loyal girlfriends to go with, but the friendship model portraited in the film for these four forty-somthings (among them two have young children) is not that convincing. They had so many gatherings, lunch-outs together talking about colouring (sex), being there for each other when needed. I just think It's unrealistic to make such a commitment to freindship for a woman like Miranda, who is in 40s having work and kid responsibility. This model was more convincing in TV series when they were in their 30s, single. Just like in Bridget Jones' diary, they treat each other as families. But now they are in their 40s. what's the point to have family if you still have to spend your New Year's Eve or Christmas with Friends...

I agree. That's why I was jealous of their friendship because I know how hard it is in real life to form such amazing friendship, if it's ever possible!

Well, don't forget it's just a movie. :)
