Chinese New Year - Kunming

My Dad has already been waiting at the airport for us for a while when we arrived Kunming as the flight had been delayed. When we met, I told Daniel to call 'Gong Gong' and Daniel surprisingly obeyed my 'order', he said 'Gong Gong' and didn't struggle off when my Dad try to cuddle him, it's a pleasant surprise for me. Daniel called my mum Po Po as well when he saw her. Also the following day he even want my mum to carry him. It was such a shame that we couldnt stay in Kunming longer than i would like to,

My parent has moved to a new apartment which has two floors since we were in Kunming last time. The tiled lounge and balcony was a bit novelty for Daniel. It was cold when we got there, my Dad especially went out to buy an extra rug to put on top the tiled floor for Daniel to play on.

Daniel was so excited with the buses in Kunming that he demanded to go on the bus every morning when we woke up and we did. It was like a Bus Holiday. We went everywhere by buses. Lucky the bus service in Kunming is so convenient and efficient nowadays, to some extent it's better than driving.

Food wise, my mum was bit worried about what she was going to give Daniel to eat before we arrived, but Daniel was just doing fine. He was OK eating soup rice noodles for breakfast, he called it 'Noodles in gravy', he also likes 饵块. Eating-out was a bit problem as most restaurants foods in Kunming is very spicy, but somehow Daniel liked going out for dinner...

Ruolan, If I know earlier that you are going back China, I would book air ticket the same day as you. My ticket was on 25th of January and stayed in Beijing airport from 9:30 to 15:30 on 26th of January. What a pity that we missed each other. Bi

Hi, Bi, Nice to hear from you.
We were in Beijing airport on 16th Jan on outbound journey and stayed 3 days at Beijing on return one. We were in Beijing airport 1st of Feb. Shame we missed each other. It would be nice to see you and kids!

Are you still in China at the moment?

He looks so cute in the chinese outfit. I'm going to get some for my kids this time!

Your parent's place looks very nice!! Did they buy it? Where is it?

Yes, their new place is very nice, which is bought from employer at lower than market price. It's 凯旋花园 on Nan San Huan RD if you know where it is. :)

Are you going to stay your Mum's place while in Kunming? where is your Mum's?

Actually we are not going to Kunming. My mom lives in Guangzhou now with her new husband. They insisted that we stay with them, so we will. :) Might be less comfortable for Mark, but it's good for my mom to be with kids all the time.

There is nothing in Kunming for me to go back. Quite sad.

We are also going to Shanghai to see Formula one. Will also spend several days in Sanya and Haikou.

Your travel plan sounds exciting! How long will you stay in CHina for then? I've never been to Sanya and Haikou myslef, but i think they will be you relaxing part of the Holiday, are they? Hainan Island is called Hawii in China ;)

Has your brother moved out KM as well? Looks like there isnt really anything for you in KM. it might be sad for you at some level, but I think the good point is that it's easy for you to move on, isn't it? For me, i find myself have the increasingly needs to go back KM since Daniel was born, becasue the fear of my parent's getting old, the chances for Daniel and me to see them are getting less. So now Going-back-China is our top priority in terms of travelling.

We will leave on 5 April and come back on 30 April. Quite a long break.

Hotels in Sanya 亚龙湾 are very expensive. Apparently it's really wonderful and beautiful beach. We will stay there for two nights and if we like it a lot, we will change to a cheaper hotel in another bay for a few more days. My brother lives in Haikou, so we will stay there for two or three days too.

Mark just decided not to go and watch F1. He said it cost too much and not worth it. Well, save us a trip to Shanghai. It's better in a way as I plan to have my two wisdom teeth out and might get laser eye surgery done as well in Guangzhou. So I need more time in Guangzhou to recover.

I know what you mean about spending more time with your parents. We can only do as much as we can...
