Daniel's First Visit to Beijing

We left Kunming on 29th Jan for Beijing and spent the last 3 days of holiday there before returning Britain. It was only the Forth day of the Chinese New Year, my parents and my sister and her husband were all in airport to see us off, I felt a bit sad that the visit was so short, i felt that I don't want to leave this place, but somehow we all got used to this scene every year.

The flight was 13.oopm and we arrived at Beijing airport around 16.00pm. We took taxi to Wang Fu Jing. Terry booked the WangFuJing Grand Hotel online while staying my parent's house. He tried to book the one where we stayed several years ago but we both couldn't remember the name of the hotel. So he booked this five-star one at the heart of the Wang Fu Jing. Daniel was quite excited about hotel, he likes to jump up and down the king-sized double bed and play his toy on the chair. He put the Please-Don't-Disturb label on the door on his wrist and pretended it's his handbag and he was doing shopping. It was cold in Beijing, but we are lucky just to avoid the -14 C temperature a few days ago. It was -5C when we were there. It didn't feel that cold. We went out for meal every evening in WangFuJing. We were all excited about the food choices that WangFuJing offers, in particular, Both Terry and Daniel likes Yoshinoya Japanese Restaurant and Hanna Shan Korean one. They also likes the Food Republic inside the Xin Dong Fang Guang Chang.

We took Daniel to Forbidden City one day and the Olympic Stadium the other day, but he wouldn't interest them that much.

Daniel likes staying hotel so much that when we landed at Heathrow and put him in car, he said he wanted to go hotel, ' donut want to go home... don't want to go home...' I think, Hotel for him probably mean staying late, that's why he likes it.

Sounds so much fun. I can't wait to get to China and eat all kinds of food. Mark said he was going to eat Yum Cha everyday... Hehe.

I think when kids are so young, they are not interested in tours. That's why we are just going to do shopping in HK, no Disneyland, no ocean park... Easier for us too.

BTW, any hotel recommendations for HK? I can't decide where to stay, tossing between 尖沙咀 and 铜锣湾.

I remembered that on our last trip to HK, we've stayed both Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong Island. I don't think it will make much difference as long as you stay quite close to the Victorial Harbour, the harbour area on both sides are all full of shopping and eating places. I would recommend you to choose a hotel with harbour view. the hotel we stayed for outboud journey locates the heart of Nanshan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and more expenssive, but i dont have much memeory of it. However, the one we stayed on the way back is a hotel associated with YMCA, I don't remember the exact name,lt locates a prime location, next to HK Convention Center by Victoria Harbour on HK island. We had a harbour view room which didnt burst our purse, costed about £56 per night if i didnt remember wrongly and it got such a superb night view and i actually had a lot of meomory of it.I just googled it. It either called YMCA International House or Salibury YMCA.

Thank you very much!! Very helpful!

I have decided to stay in 红勘 on the way to Guangzhou because it's next to the train station - we are going to catch a train to Guangzhou. That hotel has free shuttle bus to 尖沙咀. On the way back to Sydney, we are going to stay in the one you recommended. I will look into these two YMCA today.

I booked YMCA Salisbury for the stopover from Guangzhou to Sydney. It's in Kowloon Tsim Sha Tsiu, on the Victoria Harbour. The price is much cheaper than the next door Peninsula (which costs minimum US$600!), but still very expensive - HK$1705. It's a very popular hotel with prime location and "reasonable" price. But apparently the room is very small. I might have to put the kids on the floor if there are enough blankets. :)

Actually they only allow one small child with two adults. But I emailed them and they agreed to let us four stay in the Harbour View Room. It's great because we didn't have to book the family suite which has no harbour view and cost much more.

Looks it's getting expensive! maybe because you are travelling during Easter or maybe my memory was rusty :) Yes, the hotel room is very small, but it was big enough for us at the time. Daniel always shares bed with us when we travel and he still does. Anyway, it's a nice hotel at a good location. Enjoy your upcoming holiday!
